The project began with an idea for a shelf to hold a record collection. Our client asked if we could fit a cabinet bed inside this custom piece.  We designed two matching cabinets to flank an upright piano. One of the units holds a fold-out bed.

Our design process for the folding bed was meticulous. The custom piece perfectly fits a full-size mattress. Unique folding legs and wooden spacers support the platform. The cabinets and shelves are made from black walnut with solid wood edges.

The studio designed custom metal legs and vertical supports. Every dimension was considered so that the bed/lower cabinets could sit as low as possible. We studied the cabinet proportions with detailed renderings and models. This allowed us to fine tune the final design with the client.
