This is a proposal for an Issey Miyake store in New York City. The concrete commercial space was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The design uses the folds in the Miyake’s Pleats Please line as a formal language.
Angled sculptural panels form a faceted shadow box to display singular Miyake pieces. The scheme addresses the long ribbon window as a site for play and display from inside and outside. Customers and clothing pieces double a models or actors in a vitrine.
A unique hanging system was proposed to allow displays to change periodically
